1) Are the long domain
names as valuable as everyone claims them to be?
Answer: There
are actually 3 reasons why long domain names have become an invaluable asset to
anyone doing business on the Internet. First of all, now is your chance to
register company names, product names, and trademarks that were longer than 23
characters. You now have the ability to stuff the domain names with keywords so
that you can increase your rankings in the search engines... something we will
expand on below. The third reason and the most obvious is that now you have the
chance to get the ".com" address your company needs to be successful
on the Internet….if you don't have a ".com" address, you are losing
hard earned visitors to your website! A powerful ".COM" address is
worth its weight in gold!
2) What is the easiest and
most effective way to pick powerful keywords for my domain name?
Answer: There
is an extremely easy solution to picking powerful keywords for your domain
name... all you need to do is keep your mind open and think outside of the box!
Let me explain. When people are trying to pick keywords for their websites, more
times than not, they become too focused on one group of words or a specific
theme. Before you even start to pick your keywords, you need to ask yourself one
simple question...
"Who is my target
market, who on the Internet is going to be looking for what I have to
offer?"
Once you have identified who
that group is, brainstorm the different keywords that they would use to find
your site in the search engines. Even pick up a thesaurus and see what you come
up with. You cannot do this if you are thinking "inside a box"! If you
can't open up your mind to the possibilities, you will miss out on a potentially
huge market!
For example, lets say you
have a website dedicated to teaching people "How to become a better leader
by empowering those around you". Now, lets figure out who your target
market is... in this case it is most likely those who are "up and
coming" management candidates trying to hone and improve their skills. Do
you think they are going to search for "empowering techniques" or
"leadership skills"? Nope! They probably haven't even heard of
"Empowering Techniques"... they are going to be looking for things
like "Management Training", "New Managers", etc. I will say
it one more time: Think outside of the box... figure out who your target market
is and think like them! Then, and only then, are you going to come up with the
keywords you need to be successful in the search engines!
3) Where can I sell the
long domain names that I have purchased?
Answer:
Hundreds of people that have registered long domain names in hope of being able
to sell them for a profit down the road. Many people have made huge profits
doing this with very little effort and with the new 67 character domain names
coming available, this opportunity has expanded exponentially. Now, I am not
guaranteeing that you are going to sell every domain name you register... but
with the right one you could have the opportunity to make a serious profit with
almost no effort on your part! So now that you have come up with a great domain
name and want to make a quick return on it... how? The solution is simple…SELL
IT. We have many people asking the same question "Where do I go to sell a
domain name?". Well, here are a few suggestions:
These are all great places to
list and sell you domain names with absolutely no cost to you. These guys do all
of the work bringing the traffic to there website all you have to do is post the
domain name you want to sell... it's that easy! Just make sure before you sell
your domain name... register it first!
4) How many keywords
should I put in my domain name?
Answer: The
answer to this questions actually varies depending on what you want to do with
your domain names so we are going to break it down for you. If you are
registering a domain name that will be used strictly to boost your rankings in
the search engines, you will want to use as many keywords as possible. For
example, if you had a site that was dedicated to fly fishing in Canada you could
use something like…
www.Fly-Fishing-Canada-Lakes-Rivers.com
This would be great for the
search engines because it covers all of your critical keywords in the one URL.
On the other hand we have had many people asking if they should repeat their
keywords in their URL. For example…
www.Fly-Fishing-Fly-Fishing-Fly-Fishing.com
Is this a good idea?
Definitely not! The only thing this may accomplish is getting you accused of
spamming the search engines… which will destroy your effort to get the ranking
you were trying so hard to achieve. In summary, your domain name will be perfect
as long as all of your critical keywords are covered in the URL.
5) Should I use keywords
that are very specific, or should I use more common keywords when choosing my
domain name?
Answer: When
choosing keywords for a domain name, you need to figure out who your target
market is, and then customize that domain name to reflect the keywords they are
searching for. If you play your cards, or shall we say keywords, right, you can
actually target your market by the keywords that you choose to use in your
domain name. The easiest way to explain this is to show you, so here is a little
scenerio: Lets say you run a fitness website and cater to two different target
markets. The first being people interested in dieting and the second being
people interested in body building. If you want a domain name that is going to
attract bodybuilders, customize it for bodybuilders. You will want to use
something like www.body-building-muscle-strength.com as a doorway page.
Remember, this is what they will be searching for and that is what you are
giving them. Are dieters going to be searching for those same keywords? Of
course not! They are going to search for diet specific keywords. For dieters, a
domain name like www.diet-weight-loss-shape-exercise-health.com will be very
effective as a doorway page into your website.
6) Should I use hyphens in
my domain name?
Answer: If
you are trying to increase your search engine ranking, use hyphens! You have to
remember that search engines are just computers, and if you do not use hyphens,
it can be very difficult for them to parse your URL for keywords. The hyphens
give the search engines some means of telling your keywords apart. On the other
hand if you are registering a domain name for advertising purposes other than
through search engines, you will not want to use hyphens. It has been proven
time and time again that the average "web surfer" finds it much easier
to type in a URL without hyphens, and you need to make your website as easy to
locate as possible! By adding hyphens, you are going to lose your hard earned
visitors! In summary if you want to appeal to the search engines make sure you
use hyphens and if you want to appeal to the average person surfing the web do
not use hyphens. But do you know what the easiest way to guarantee success is?
Register both! There is no better way to ensure that you are getting as many
visitors as possible than by registering the both URL with hyphens and the same
URL without.
7) Why are some of the
domain name registration companies still not accepting registrations for the new
long domain names?
Answer: They won’t register
anything over 27 characters because their ordering systems are not setup to
handle anything bigger.
8) Do all web browsers
support long domain names?
Answer: Just
about every browser available supports the 67 character domain names. There is
only one known issue so far and that is with Netscape. You may receive an error
with domain names that are over 59 characters in length. There has been some
conflicting information regarding this, because only some people are having the
problem. But if this is a real problem, Netscape will be taking care of it
shortly because as more and more long domain names are registered, less and less
people will use their browser if they don’t support them!
9) How long should my
domain name be before it is too long?
Answer:
Once your domain name loses it’s "catchiness" or becomes hard to
remember, then it is too long. Realistically, anything over 50 characters is
getting very long... but if it is catchy enough people will remember it!
10) How will people remember
such a long domain name?
Answer: There
is a very simple answer to this… it must be catchy! If you are not using the
name of your company, you have to make the domain name very catchy so that it
sticks out in people's minds. If it sticks out in your mind, chances are it will
stick out in your customers to! If you stick to this motto you are going
to be successful and are going to have some killer domain names!
